Celeb Obsession x

Awards season is just about over for the year and it got me to thinking… Celebrities are for a lot of us, what we focus on so much of the time. We draw inspiration from their clothes, make up, hair, even what comes out of their mouths. I think they influence our looks more than any fashion week of the year.

So when a client comes to you with a picture of the latest celebrity trend in hair, where do you turn for the how to”s?

For me it”s always straight to the internet for some “netspiration”.

It”s never a book or a magazine these days…

Pfffff, they”re so forever ago!

So what platform is my fave?

Generally Pinterest. I always keep a board full of hair inspo.

If I know a client is coming in and wanting a change, I pin pictures of celeb hair before their appointment that I know they”ll dig and that will suit them. Having all the images in one spot, forever, makes it super easy to refer back to.

Now, if we”re talking technique, then I”m heading to youtube…

I know it sounds crazy, but there are some bloody good tutorials on the tube, they”re not all amateur lil gals burning their hair off with a tong, trust me!

For me, the most recent celeb style that I was dying to see done, was Kim Kardashian”s perfect stretched root blonde. I mean, I know how to stretch roots but hers was just so perfect I had to know how (other than her stylists being paid 1000″s) it was being done so flawlessly…

Luckily I stumbled across one of the latest eps of Keeping up with the Kardashians and all my wishes were granted… A 2 minute convo between Kim and Khloe while Kim was having her hair coloured. It was all I needed to lock in the confidence of how to get the result and luckily I came across it because whaddya know, the next day I had a client request it, PHEW!

If you”re a hairdresser, you”re seasoned in the majority of techniques most of the time but sometimes you”ve not done one for yonks, or like me you work on your own and have no one else to bounce ideas off – so you just need a wee recap, not a whole class (of course classes are always brilliant to concrete the technique into ya brain but sometimes you need it on the double!) find your recap on YouTube!

There are heaps of how to”s from professionals so you know you”re getting the hot tip!

From upstyles, to colouring, red carpet hair and make up, you”ve got a World Wide Web of knowledge at you fingertips!

We all know it”s important to keep up with trends but if you”re all over them before they become big, your clients will be all over you for being ahead of every other stylist on the street.
