Oh how the times have changed…
And I”m not talking decades ago, I”m talking the last 5 years…
As our fascination with celebrities guiltily grows, so does the online obsession with delivering you the news first.
Who”s divorcing, kissing, fighting who… Who”s best dressed, worst dressed or a total tragedy.
For us, it”s who”s gone the chop, gone dark or wearing a red carpet hair dream we all can”t wait to recreate.
So have you noticed how fast you get your news these days?
Whether it”s celebrity, breaking or little local tidbits, it”s being fed to you faster than they can clarify details.
They”re saying the mobile web is dead because everyone uses an app for everything…
If you think about it they”re not far from the truth!
We”ve got apps for maps, music, video, news, gossip, blogs, magazines, social networks, the list is truly infinite.
And When you think about where you get your news from while you”re at work, in line at the grocery store or waiting in a doctor”s surgery – I”m pretty sure a lot of you would say Facebook…
I always feel like the first to hear news, having said that, I am a social media freak, I barely have a moment where my phone isn”t in hand (Unless it”s replaced by my scissors!) but nonetheless, I feel that way because of the outlets I follow on Facebook and Instagram. Facebook is dead, ask the hipsters, they told us so.
It”s dead in regards to using it socially. Nobody is writing on walls or updating status” like they were 3 years ago. But where Facebook is dead it”s also never been so alive!
It”s a news hub, the greatest news hub at your pretty little fingertips.
Every company, news outlet, fashion store, magazine, music artist, you name it has a Facebook/instagram page and they”re keeping you in the loop with everything applicable in the world today. If you”re not hearing news first, you”re not following the right pages. I guarantee you will barely touch the mobile web again!
The point of all this is to ask you whether you”re moving with the times? Do you as a stylist/salon have a Facebook or Instagram?
If you have neither, you”re doing yourself a mischief, if you have only one, you’re doing yourself half a mischief, if you have both, well done – but are you using it to your best advantage?
These tools should be used to excite current clients and followers, entice new clients to book appointments and to solidify you as one of their “go to” news outlets. Whether you”re using your pages to spruke about the work you”ve done for the day, new retails packs that are in stock or to keep them up to date with celeb trends – as long as you”re active, your social media presence can have a great massive positive impact on your business.
For my salon, I run a Facebook page and an instagram.
On both I share what I just listed above, you”ve gotta keep it fun, mellow and with lots of variety.
On my instagram I share a lot more in salon work mostly because it”s picture orientated but let me tell you, it has worked a treat! I”ve chatted with my fave celebrity hair stylists On instagram and received at least 5 new clients from instagram alone just based on the work I”ve posted – see, it bloody works!
So take pride in who you are as a stylist and get your kick ass work on these amazing and FREE social media platforms – be part of the movement!
